Caitlin Burgess, JD, MA, LMFT

Professional Clinical, Legal, and Forensic Services

Practice Description

I specialize in Court involved therapy in family law and criminal matters, as well as individuals/families/children in the juvenile dependency courts. I specialize in co-parenting counseling, family therapy where a child(ren) is resisting/refusing contact with a parent post-separation/post-divorce, and working with individuals involved in the legal process (adults, children, and adolescents). I am qualified as an expert witness in child custody matters, domestic violence, and family systems therapy when a child is resisting/refusing contact with a parent post-separation/post-divorce.

I am a licensed attorney in California and Washington, and a licensed marriage and family therapist in multiple states (CA, CO, WA, TX, and FL). I practiced business law and intellectual property law before transitioning to family law. Now, I take an interdisciplinary approach and understand how the legal system works from multiple perspectives (as a practicing attorney and Court involved therapist/testifying expert) which brings a depth and breadth of experience to my work as a therapist with clients who find themselves caught up in litigation. As someone who practiced law in a mid-sized law firm, and as a solo-practitioner, I understand the challenges/demands of the legal profession.
