I am a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Los Angeles. I was also a practicing attorney for many years in a range of settings (small and large firms, in-house counsel, many years as a mental health lawyer for a nonprofit organization). Based on my background as an attorney and licensed psychologist, my practice includes a focus on the specific challenges and stressors lawyers (and law students) face, including issues around career and life transitions, personal and professional identity, stress management, anxiety and depression, and burnout. As someone who navigated a complex career change from law to clinical psychology, I offer clients nuanced understanding and strategies to navigate the complexities of their own lives (and life changes). In the process, we focus on building strengths - balance, resilience, well-being, contentment. And, we work always to align with an abiding sense of purpose in personal and professional life.
My approach to psychotherapy is integrative and includes psychodynamic, mindfulness-based, and cognitive-behavioral strategies as well as attention to existential concerns. I work with clients to come into relationship with the deeper facets of themselves and thereby enrich their sense of self. We reflect on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and discover how they may be interfering with, even undermining work, relationships, and overall quality of life. With greater self-understanding comes emotional freedom and empowerment to make different choices - the kind that ease painful symptoms and lead to greater stability, contentment, even joy.
I provide a safe therapeutic space in which your authentic self is recognized and affirmed. And I help you to become more empowered to make changes that are aligned with who you are, what you want, and the kind of life you want to be living. Ultimately, therapy succeeds when it helps you create paths of purpose and fulfillment that are truly your own. If I can be helpful to you please feel free to reach out to me by phone or by email.
Although I am not an in-network insurance provider, I can provide a monthly statement (superbill) that can be used for out-of-network insurance reimbursement. In addition, I can offer flexibility on the fee depending on individual financial circumstances. Please reach out with any questions, I am happy to work with you to make therapy affordable
I have advanced/graduate training in depth psychology as well as a postdoctoral certification in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. For ten years I was adjunct faculty at Pacifica Graduate Institute, teaching counseling psychology graduate students. In addition to my license and work as a psychologist, I have training and work experience as both a lawyer and a writer.
My practice has a strong focus on helping lawyers with the personal and professional challenges they face. Often, this work involves building tools and strategies to deal with specific symptoms (stress, depression, anxiety). But just as often, it involves a deeper exploration of "crossroads" experiences: career and life transitions, and related questions of purpose, fulfillment, and meaning.
My therapy orientation is integrative, often drawing upon psychodynamic, existential, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness-based approaches. But ultimately therapy is most effective when it is individualized and develops organically and intuitively to meet the needs of the particular client.
